What is the quality report?

It is a report on the data completeness of the real-time data in the control tower, where 'real-time data' means the GPS points of the vehicles. So it is report about the quality of the monitoring of trips.


How do I create a quality report?

First, your account needs to have the correct rights in the Control Tower, otherwise you won't see the menu option. If you  should see this option but don't, you can send us a ticket. Assuming you do have the option available:


  1. Click on 'Insights' (note: the content and ordering of this menu may look different in your configuration):


  2.  Find the 'Quality report' section on the Insights page and specify the data selection you want:
     
  • Start date;
  • End date;
  • Shipper (note: this option might not be relevant for you operation and therefore absent): if you choose a shipper name, you only get data for this shipper. If you keep this field empty, you get data for all available shippers.
  • Carrier: if you choose a carrier name, you only get data for this carrier. If you keep this field empty, you get data for all available carriers.
  • Distribution center: An identifier for grouping locations. Choose one and you will only get data for this distribution center. Keep this field empty to get the data for all distribution centers.
  • 'Including last stop': If you check this field, it will take the last stop of all trips into account. If you uncheck this field, the report ignores the GPS data for the last stops of all trips. Use this if last stops in your trips are optional.
  • Send to: the e-mail address to which your quality report should be sent. You can enter multiple addresses by separating them with a ';' symbol.

Explanation of the quality report data

In the text of the mail, you find a summary. The attached Excel file contains more details. The excel contains hyperlinks which are not visible in the protected view of Microsoft Excel. You have to click on 'enable editing' to show the hyperlinks.

The excel contains 4 sheets:

  • summary
  • carrier
  • <name of shipper>
  • Simacan

Summary sheet

The summary contains all trips. It has the following columns; some of the names are in Dutch but we explain them below:

  • Transporteur: carrier
  • DC: grouped location identifier
  • Totaal aantal ritten: total number of trips
  • Volledige & Goede data (Full & correct data): trips for which the real-time data (GPS) is classified as correct.
  • Transporteur: trips for which the real-time data is classified as incorrect and that is probably caused by the carrier.
  • <Name of shipper>: trips for which the real-time data is classified as incorrect and that is probably caused by the shipper.
  • Simacan: trips for which the real-time data is classified as incorrect and that is probably caused by Simacan.

Other sheets

The carrier, shipper and Simacan sheet only contain trips for which the real-time data is classified as incorrect, with the following columns:

  • DC
  • Datum rit (Trip date)
  • Trip id: this is also a hyperlink to the trip.
  • Kenteken trekkende eenheid: vehicle ID
  • Transporteur / Carrier
  • Update frequentie: update frequency of the GPS points
  • Fout (Error): the reason why the trip is classified as incorrect.
  • These sheets show the reasons why the trips are classified as incorrect. If there are multiple reasons, only the most important reason is shown. The column 'trip id' is also a hyperlink to the trip in the Control Tower.

Carrier

Reasons why data is classified as incorrect:

  • no gps points received for this trip.
  • gps points were received, but none of them were at a planned stop location. 
  • gps points were received, but starting at a later location than the first stop.
  • update frequency was too low: column F shows the update frequency. If this frequency is below a defined threshold, this message is shown. The minimum update frequency is a setting that can be specified. Usually, it is around 10 minutes.

Shipper

Reasons why data is classified as incorrect:

  • Stop not detected, hitrate <95%: the stop is not detected. Hitrate lower than 95% means the stop is correctly detected less than 95% of the time. Usually this means that the geofence or the location address is incorrect.

Simacan

Reasons why data is classified as incorrect:

  • stop not detected, BUT hitrate >=95%. This means that a stop was missed, but this stop is detected more than 95% of the time. Usually this means the stop detection algorithm did not work correctly.
  • no departure registered of at least one stop.

Explanation

Tab 1 provides a summary of the data completeness of all carriers. The other tabs provide insight into which trips have gone wrong. It is also possible to click on a trip number, which sends you as a user to the trip in the Control Tower.


The different errors are:

  • Trip without data
    • This means that no data has been received at all from the FMS / the on-board computer / app of the driver.
  • Started too late with data delivery
    • This means that data was received too late from the driver's FMS / on-board computer / app. It is possible that the trip started much later in reality and that this was not adjusted or communicated.
  • A stop not registered, truck has not been near the stop
    • This conclusion is drawn because no GPS data was received in the geofence/area of the stop. It is therefore possible that the driver has not been to this stop.
  • Trip update rate is too low
    • Not enough GPS data is being received. There may be malfunctions in the FMS / the driver's on-board computer / app or the vehicle is planned on multiple trips.
