Introduction
This quarter there have been improvements to the Simacan platform. Below you can read what's new.
October
Shipment Status view
Simacan introduces a new view as tab, namely; the Shipments view. This makes it possible to track the status of shipments without immediately having all other stops of a journey in view. We have written a separate article about this functionality.
Flexible Vehicle types
When sending vehicle types from the planning, it was mandatory to use a specific number of types. Now there is no more limitation to send vehicle types. The Control Tower now basically shows all vehicle types that you send.
✨Improved performance trip list
The speed of the ride list has been improved and text has been adapted to the same styling as used in other views. This improves the user experience.
⚙️Arrival Display now available via API
Simacan has a specific view for locations (such as shops or DC's) to make arrivals visible. From now on you can get the information from this view available via an API, making it easier to use data from Simacan in your own store apps.
Improved integration with App2Track for Paperless eCMR
Simacan easily offers the necessary data to parties that use App2Track to support the paperless and/or eCMR process. This makes it easier for parties to transform their operation to paperless working.
Other updates
- Master data
- In the location overview you can now see per location whether first/last miles have been registered.
- If a routing is no longer available, for example due to a map update, it is crossed out in the relevant location screen and displayed in gray.
- On the map you will find a new button with which you can switch multiple map layers on and off.
- Multiple improvements regarding showing route restriction
- Control Tower
- An end user can now assign a subcontractor to a trip if no carrier planning (carrier planning) is (yet) available. The Control Tower then automatically creates a carrier schedule.
The styling of the login page has been updated.

✨Improved styling trip list
- The layout and loading speed of the trip list in the Control Tower has changed.
- A selection box is present for each trip. Previously this selection box was hidden behind an icon. Now the selection box is visible before the icon.
This makes it easier to select multiple trips at once, for example when you want to cancel a set of trips. The prerequisite is that the 'multi-select' functionality is enabled for your user group.
On the left in the picture you can see the old situation and on the right the new one: - Minor changes have also been made to the widths of the columns in the trip list, making some values more readable. In rare cases, a horizontal scroll bar may appear above the screen if not all the columns will fit on your screen anymore.
- When filtering from the triplist, the available trips vs total trips are shown in the trip header.
Below is an example when selecting on the active trips:
Update Consignment Status view
A number of new features have been added on the Shipments tab. Note: not all users have this tab at their disposal, this depends on your position and employer.
- It is now possible to filter on 'customerData'.
- In addition to the order number, we can now also display the external order reference as a column.
- The display of the carrier in the carrier filter has been improved.
- We can hide cancelled actions (such as loading actions/unloading actions) if desired. This gives better overview when you have a workflow with many updates of shipments.
- Status was not always updating correctly, this has been fixed.
Other updates
- General map update with update of restricties and new/old roads
December
OTM5 interface now easier for partners
It has become easier to connect to our OTM5 messages. We provided more detailed clarification on what data to expect. Specifically the fields and values found under ‘externalAttributes’. This way your coding can be done with more simple logic. In these efforts we ensured that our documentation remains always in line with the OTM5 we send out.
⏳Performance improvement TD-Matrix
The TD matrix is now faster! This enables even larger TD-matrices and thus operations with even more locations. We typically see the time cut in half, but more importantly this enables us to work on more improvements.
Planning input in system messages
The system messages now show additional messages. These messages are created when we process data from a TMS or FMS that enriches the planning. The system messages are now your overview to see who sent planning data. Resulting in a direct accessible overview of all processed planning input, whether from you or your partners.
Other updates
- Minor bug fixes for the Shipments view, so that the status is now shown correctly
- Improvement in the OTM5 planning service to counter duplicate locations
- The Developer Portal has been updated with the latest information
